Jawshan Sagheer

This du’a is narrated on the authority of Imam Musa al-Kazim, peace he upon him
Sayyid ibn Tawus in his book ;Muhaj al dawat’ have narrated ( from 4 sources) that Imam Kazim (a.s.) used to recite this dua when he knew that the Abbaside caliph was planning to kill him
Following copy is quoted from al-Balad al-Amin. Recited for Protection against Enemy:

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

bismi allahi alrrahmani alrrahimi

In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.

إِلٰهِي كَم مِنْ عَدُوٍّ

ilahi kam min `aduwwin

1.O my God, many an enemy

ٱنتَضَىٰ عَلَيَّ سَيْفَ عَدَاوَتِهِ

intada `alayya sayfa `adawatihi

unsheathed the sword of his hostility against me,

وَشَحَذَ لِي ظُبَّةَ مُدْيَتِهِ

wa shahadha li zubbata mudyatihi

honed his dagger’s edge against me,

وَارْهَفَ لِي شَبَا حَدِّهُ

wa arhafa li shaba haddihi

sharpened the heads of his weapons against me,

وَدَافَ لِي قَوَاتِلَ سُمُومِهِ

wa dafa li qawatila sumumihi

mixed for me his deadly poisons,

وَسَدَّدَ إِلَيَّ صَوَائِبَ سِهَامِهِ

wa saddada ilayya sawa’iba sihamihi

leveled at me his hitting arrow,

وَلَمْ تَنَمْ عَنِّي عَيْنُ حِرَاسَتِهِ

wa lam tanam `anni `aynu hirasatihi

kept a sleepless eye on me,

وَاضْمَرَ انْ يَسُومَنِي ٱلْمَكْرُوهَ

wa admara an yasumani almakruha

and decided secretly to target harm to me

وَيُجَرِّعَنِي ذُعَافَ مَرَارَتِهِ

wa yujarri`ani dhu`afa mararatihi

and to make me taste the deadly poison of his bitterness.

نَظَرْتَ إِلَىٰ ضَعْفِي عَنِ ٱحْتِمَاِل ٱلْفَوَاِدحِ

nazarta ila da`fi `an ihtimali alfawadihi

[Amid all that] You considered that I am too weak to bear hardships,

وَعَجْزِي عَنِ ٱلإِنتِصَارِ مِمَّن قَصَدَنِي بِمُحَارَبَتِهِ

wa `ajzi `an al-intisari mimman qasadani bimuharabatihi

I am too short to have aid against him who aimed at attacking me,

وَوَحْدَتِي فِي كَثِيرٍ مِمَّنْ نَاوَانِي وَارْصَدَ لِي

wa wahdati fi kathirin mimman nawani wa arsada li

and You perceived my loneliness to confront many of those who incurred my hostility and laid in wait for me,

فِيمَا لَمْ اعْمِلْ فِكْرِي فِي ٱلإِرْصَادِ لَهُم بِمِثْلِهِ

fima lam u`mil fikri fi al-irsadi lahum bimithlihi

while I have not been ready to give any thought to sitting in ambush and retaliating.

فَايَّدْتَنِي بِقُوَّتِكَ

fa ayyadtani biquwwatika

So, You came to stand by me with Your might,

وَشَدَدْتَ ازْرِي بِنُصْرَتِكَ

wa shadadta azri binusratika

made me strong through Your support,

وَفَلَلْتَ لِي حَدَّهُ

wa falalta li haddahu

notched his sharpness against me,

وَخَذَلْتَهُ بَعْدَ جَمْعِ عَدِيدِهِ وَحَشْدِهِ

wa khadhaltahu ba`da jam`i `adidihi wa hashdihi

disappointed him although he concentrated all his troops and crowds,

وَاعْلَيْتَ كَعْبِي عَلَيْهِ

wa a`layta ka`bi `alayhi

You gave me the upper hand over him,

وَوَجَّهْتَ مَا سَدَّدَ إِلَيَّ مِنْ مَكَائِدِهِ إِلَيْهِ

wa wajjahta ma saddada ilayya min maka’idihi ilayhi

directed toward him the same traps that he had laid for me,

وَرَدَدْتَهُ عَلَيْهِ

wa radadtahu `alayhi

and caused him to be engaged with his own traps.

وَلَمْ يَشْفِ غَلِيلَهُ

wa lam yashfi ghalilahu

Thus, he could not quench his thirst,

وَلَمْ تَبْرُدْ حَزَازَاتُ غَيْظِهِ

wa lam tabrud hazazatu ghayzihi

did not assuage the fury of his anger,

وَقَدْ عَضَّ عَلَيَّ انَامِلَهُ

wa qad `adda `alayya anamilahu

bit his thumb [out of his malice toward me],

وَادْبَرَ مُوَلِّياً قَدْ اخْفَقَتْ سَرَايَاهُ

wa adbara muwalliyan qad akhfaqat sarayahu

and turned his back fleeing after his pennons had failed.

فَلَكَ ٱلْحَمْدُ يَا رَبِّ

falaka alhamdu ya rabbi

So, all praise be to You, O Lord;

مِنْ مُقْتَدِرٍ لاَ يُغْلَبُ

min muqtadirin la yughlabu

You are invulnerably Omnipotent

وَذِي انَاةٍ لاَ يَعْجَلُ

wa dhi anatin la ya`jalu

and prudently Forbearing.

صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

salli `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin

Bless Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad

وَٱجْعَلْنِي لِنَعْمَائِكَ مِنَ ٱلشَّاكِرِينَ

waj`alni lina`ma’ika mina alshshakirina

and include me with those who are thankful for Your bounties

وَلآلاَئِكَ مِنَ ٱلذَّاكِرِينَ

wa li-ala’ika mina aldhdhakirina

and those who permanently mention Your graces.

إِلٰهِي وَكَمْ مِنْ بَاغٍ

ilahi wa kam min baghin

2.O my God, many a tyrannical oppressor

بَغَانِي بِمَكَائِدِهِ

baghani bimaka’idihi

made me the target of his oppressive trickeries,

وَنَصَبَ لِي اشْرَاكَ مَصَائِدِهِ

wa nasaba li ashraka masa’idihi

set the traps of his hunting for me,

وَوَكَّلَ بِي تَفَقُّدَ رِعَايَتِهِ

wa wakkala bi tafaqquda ri`ayatihi

continuously spied on me,

وَاضْبَا إِلَيَّ إِضْبَاءَ ٱلسَّبْعِ لِطَرِيدَتِهِ

wa adba’a ilayya idba’a alssabu`i litaridatihi

and waylaid me like a beast waylaying its prey

إنتِظَاراً لاِنْتِهَازِ فُرْصَتِهِ

intizaran lintihazi fursatihi

in waiting for seizing the best opportunity [to catch me],

وَهُوَ يُظْهِرُ بَشَاشَةَ ٱلْمَلَقِ

wa huwa yuzhiru bashashata almalaqi

While he was showing me happy mien flatteringly

وَيَبْسُطُ وَجْهاً غَيْرَ طَلِقٍ

wa yabsutu wajhan ghayra taliqin

and displaying an uncheerful face.

فَلَمَّا رَايْتَ دَغَلَ سَرِيرَتِهِ

falamma ra’ayta daghala sariratihi

So, when You saw ill intention of his inner self

وَقُبْحَ مَا ٱنطَوَىٰ عَلَيْهِ لِشَرِيكِهِ فِي مِلَّتِهِ

wa qubha ma intawa `alayhi lisharikihi fi millatihi

and the ugliness of his determination against his partner in religion,

وَاصْبَحَ مُجْلِباً لِي فِي بَغْيِهِ

wa asbaha mujliban li fi baghyihi

and he became resolute in tyranny against me,

ارْكَسْتَهُ لاِمِّ رَاسِهِ

arkastahu li’ummi ra’sihi

You threw him down headlong

وَاتَيْتَ بُنيَانَهُ مِنْ اسَاسِهِ

wa atayta bunyanahu min asasihi

and demolished his structure from its foundation.

فَصَرَعْتَهُ فِي زُبْيَتِهِ

fasara`tahu fi zubyatihi

So, You knocked him down while he was in loftiness,

وَرَدَّيْتَهُ فِي مَهْوَىٰ حُفْرَتِهِ

wa raddaytahu fi mahwa hufratihi

made him fall in the bottomless depth of his hole,

وَجَعَلْتَ خَدَّهُ طَبَقاً لِتُرَابِ رِجْلِهِ

wa ja`alta khaddahu tabaqan liturabi rijlihi

caused his face to be a cover of his foot’s dust,

وَشَغَلْتَهُ فِي بَدَنِهِ وَرِزْقِهِ

wa shaghaltahu fi badanihi wa rizqihi

caused him to be engaged with his body and his earnings,

وَرَمَيْتَهُ بِحَجَرِهِ

wa ramaytahu bihajarihi

hurled him with his own stone,

وَخَنَقْتَهُ بِوَتَرِهِ

wa khanaqtahu biwatarihi

suffocated him with his own rope,

وَذَكَّيْتَهُ بِمَشَاقِصِهِ

wa dhakkaytahu bimashaqisihi

slaughtered him with his own arrowhead,

وَكَبَبْتَهُ لِمِنْخَرِهِ

wa kababtahu limankhirihi

overturned him to his nose,

وَرَدَدْتَ كَيْدَهُ فِي نَحْرِهِ

wa radadta kaydahu fi nahrihi

turned his plot to his own neck,

وَرَبَقْتَهُ بِنَدَامَتِهِ

wa rabaqtahu binadamatihi

lassoed him with his remorse,

وَفَسَاتَهُ بِحَسْرَتِهِ

wa fasa’tahu bihasratihi

and stretched him with is regret.

فَٱسْتَخْذَا وَتَضَاءَلَ بَعْدَ نَخْوَتِهِ

fastakhdha’a wa tada’ala ba`da nakhwatihi

So, he became lowly and dwindled after his arrogance,

وَٱنقَمَعَ بَعْدَ ٱسْتِطَالَتِهِ

wanqama`a ba`da istitalatihi

was crushed after his haughtiness;

ذَلِيلاً مَاسُوراً فِي رِبْقِ حِبَالَتِهِ

dhalilan ma’suran fi ribqi hibalatihi

humble and captured in the lasso of his trap

ٱلَّتِي كَانَ يُؤَمِّلُ انْ يَرَانِي فِيهَا يَوْمَ سَطْوَتِهِ

allati kana yu’ammilu an yarani fiha yawma satwatihi

in which he expected to see me in the days of his influence.

وَقَدْ كِدْتُ يَا رَبِّ لَوْلاَ رَحْمَتُكَ

wa qad kidtu ya rabbi lawla rahmatuka

In fact, O my Lord, I was—had it not been for Your mercy—

انْ يَحِلَّ بِي مَا حَلَّ بِسَاحَتِهِ

an yahulla bi ma halla bisahatihi

about to encounter the same as he had encountered.

فَلَكَ ٱلْحَمْدُ يَا رَبِّ

falaka alhamdu ya rabbi

So, all praise be to You, O Lord;

مِنْ مُقْتَدِرٍ لاَ يُغْلَبُ

min muqtadirin la yughlabu

You are invulnerably Omnipotent

وَذِي انَاةٍ لاَ يَعْجَلُ

wa dhi anatin la ya`jalu

and prudently Forbearing.

صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

salli `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin

Bless Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad

وَٱجْعَلْنِي لِنَعْمَائِكَ مِنَ ٱلشَّاكِرِينَ

waj`alni lina`ma’ika mina alshshakirina

and include me with those who are thankful for Your bounties

وَلآِلاَئِكَ مِنَ ٱلذَّاكِرِينَ

wa li-ala’ika mina aldhdhakirina

and those who permanently mention Your graces.

إِلٰهِي وَكَمْ مِنْ حَاسِدٍ شَرِقَ بِحَسْرَتِهِ

ilahi wa kam min hasidin shariqa bihasratihi

3.O my God, many an envier choked with his regret

وَعَدُوٍّ شَجِيَ بِغَيْظِهِ

wa `aduwwin shajiya bighayzihi

and an enemy became grieved out of his fury,

وَسَلَقَنِي بِحَدِّ لِسَانِهِ

wa salaqani bihaddi lisanihi

smit me with his sharp tongue,

وَوَخَزَنِي بِمُوقِ عَيْنِهِ

wa wakhazani bimuqi `aynihi

pricked me with the inner corner of his eye,

وَجَعَلَنِي غَرَضاً لِمَرَامِيهِ

wa ja`alani gharadan limaramihi

made me the object of his intentions,

وَقَلَّدَنِي خِلاَلاً لَمْ تَزَلْ فِيهِ

wa qalladani khilalan lam tazal fihi

and gird me with dispositions that are still his.

نَاديْتُكَ يَا رَبِّ مُسْتَجِيراً بِكَ

nadaytuka ya rabbi mustajiran bika

Therefore, I called upon You, O my Lord, seeking Your shelter,

وَاثِقاً بِسُرْعَةِ إِجَابَتِكَ

wathiqan bisur`ati ijabatika

having full confidence in the immediateness of Your response,

مُتَوَكِّلاً عَلَىٰ مَا لَمْ ازَلْ اتَعَرَّفُهُ

mutawakkilan `ala malam azal ata`arrafuhu

trusting in that which I am still receiving from You;

مِن حُسْنِ دِفَاعِكَ

min husni difa`ika

namely, the excellence of Your defense of me,

عَالِماً انَّهُ لاَ يُضْطَهَدُ مَنْ اوَىٰ إِلَىٰ ظِلِّ كَنَفِكَ

`aliman annahu la yudtahadu man awa ila zilli kanafika

having full knowledge that whoever harbors under the shade of Your protection will never be persecuted,

وَلَن تَقْرَعَ ٱلْحَوَادِثُ مَنْ لَجَا إِلَىٰ مَعْقِلِ ٱلاِنْتِصَارِ بِكَ

wa lan taqra`a alhawadithu man laja’a ila ma`qili al-intisari bika

and whoever takes refuge in the fortress of the seeking of Your support will never be exposed to the strikes of misfortunes.

فَحَصَّنْتَنِي مِنْ بَاسِهِ بِقُدْرَتِكَ

fahassantani min ba’sihi biqudratika

So, You safeguarded me from his prowess with Your omnipotence.

فَلَكَ ٱلْحَمْدُ يَا رَبِّ

falaka alhamdu ya rabbi

So, all praise be to You, O Lord;

مِنْ مُقْتَدِرٍ لاَ يُغْلَبُ

min muqtadirin la yughlabu

You are invulnerably Omnipotent

وَذِي انَاةٍ لاَ يَعْجَلُ

wa dhi anatin la ya`jalu

and prudently Forbearing.

صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

salli `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin

Bless Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad

وَٱجْعَلْنِي لِنَعْمَائِكَ مِنَ ٱلشَّاكِرِينَ

waj`alni lina`ma’ika mina alshshakirina

and include me with those who are thankful for Your bounties

وَلآِلاَئِكَ مِنَ ٱلذَّاكِرِينَ

wa li-ala’ika mina aldhdhakirina

and those who permanently mention Your graces.

إِلٰهِي وَكَمْ مِنْ سَحَائِبِ مَكْرُوهٍ جَلَّيْتَهَا

ilahi wa kam min saha’ibi makruhin jallaytaha

4.O my God, many clouds of misfortune You have dispersed,

وَسَمَاءِ نِعْمَةٍ مَطَرْتَهَا

wa sama’i ni`matin matartaha

much rain of bliss You have poured,

وَجَدَاوِلِ كَرَامَةٍ اجْرَيْتَهَا

wa jadawili karamatin ajraytaha

many streams of conferral You have made flow,

وَاعْيُنِ احْدَاثٍ طَمَسْتَهَا

wa a`yuni ahdathin tamastaha

many springs of troubles You have effaced,

وَنَاشِئَةِ رَحْمَةٍ نشَرْتَهَا

wa nashi’ati rahmatin nashartaha

many launches of mercy You have spread,

وَجُنَّةِ عَافِيَةٍ الْبَسْتَهَا

wa junnati `afiyatin albastaha

many armors of wellbeing You have adorned [us with],

وَغَوَامِرِ كُرُبَاتٍ كَشَفْتَهَا

wa ghawamiri kurubatin kashaftaha

many overwhelming calamities You have removed,

وَامُورٍ جَارِيَةٍ قَدَّرْتَهَا

wa umurin jariyatin qaddartaha

and many continual events of goodness You have decided.

لَمْ تُعْجِزْكَ إِذْ طَلَبْتَهَا

lam tu`jizka idh talabtaha

They would never render You impotent when You determined them to happen,

وَلَمْ تَمْتَنِعْ مِنْكَ إِذْ ارَدْتَهَا

wa lam tamtani` minka idh aradtaha

and could never stop responding to You when You wanted them to be.

فَلَكَ ٱلْحَمْدُ يَا رَبِّ

falaka alhamdu ya rabbi

So, all praise be to You, O Lord;

مِنْ مُقْتَدِرٍ لاَ يُغْلَبُ

min muqtadirin la yughlabu

You are invulnerably Omnipotent

وَذِي انَاةٍ لاَ يَعْجَلُ

wa dhi anatin la ya`jalu

and prudently Forbearing.

صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

salli `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin

وَٱجْعَلْنِي لِنَعْمَائِكَ مِنَ ٱلشَّاكِرِينَ

waj`alni lina`ma’ika mina alshshakirina

and include me with those who are thankful for Your bounties

وَلآِلاَئِكَ مِنَ ٱلذَّاكِرِينَ

wa li-ala’ika mina aldhdhakirina

and those who permanently mention Your graces.

إِلٰهِي وَكَمْ مِنْ ظَنٍّ حَسَنٍ حَقَّقْتَ

ilahi wa kam min zannin hasanin haqqaqta

5.O my God, many an excellent hope You have achieved,

وَمِن كَسْرِ إِمْلاَقٍ جَبَرْتَ

wa min kasri imlaqin jabarta

many breaking poverty You have set,

وَمِن مَسْكَنَةٍ فَادِحَةٍ حَوَّلْتَ

wa min maskanatin fadihatin hawwalta

many gross neediness You have shunted,

وَمِن صَرْعَةٍ مُهْلِكَةٍ نعَشْتَ

wa min sar`atin muhlikatin na`ashta

many destructive blows You have revived (me from them),

وَمِن مَشَقَّةٍ ارَحْتَ

wa min mashaqqatin arahta

and many hardships You have relieved (me of them).

لاَ تُسْالُ عَمَّا تَفْعَلُ

la tus’alu `amma taf`alu

You cannot be questioned concerning that which You do

وَهُمْ يُسْالُونَ

wa hum yus’aluna

and they shall be questioned.

وَلاَ يَنقُصُكَ مَا انفَقْتَ

wa la yanqusuka ma anfaqta

That which You spend never decreases You.

وَلَقَدْ سُئِلْتَ فَاعْطَيْتَ

wa laqad su’ilta fa’a`tayta

When You have been besought, You gave;

وَلَمْ تُسْالْ فَٱبْتَدَاتَ

wa lam tus’al fabtada’ta

and although You have not been besought, You took the initiative to give.

وَٱسْتُمِيحَ بَابُ فَضْلِكَ فَمَا اكْديْتَ

wastumiha babu fadlika fama akdayta

When the door of Your favoring was knocked, You have not withheld.

ابَيْتَ إِلاَّ إِنْعَاماً وَامْتِنَاناً

abayta illa in`aman wa imtinanan

You have insisted on nothing but favoring and bestowal

وَابَيْتَ إِلاَّ تَطَوُّلاً يَا رَبِّ وَإِحْسَاناً

wa abayta illa tatawwulan ya rabbi wa ihsanan

and You, O my Lord, have also insisted on giving generously and beneficently.

وَابَيْتُ إِلاَّ ٱنتِهَاكاً لِحُرُمَاتِكَ

wa abaytu illa intihakan lihurumatika

But as for me, I insisted on nothing but violation of Your prohibitions,

وَٱجْتِرَاءاً عَلَىٰ مَعَاصِيكَ

wa ijtira’an `ala ma`asika

daring to commit acts of disobedience to You,

وَتَعَدِّياً لِحُدُودِكَ

wa ta`adiyyan lihududika

transgressing Your limits,

وَغَفْلَةً عَنْ وَعِيدِكَ

wa ghaflatan `an wa`idika

passing over Your threats,

وَطَاعَةً لِعَدُوِّي وَعَدُوِّكَ

wa ta`atan li`aduwwi wa `aduwwika

and obeying Your and my enemy.

لَمْ يَمْنَعْكَ يَا إِلٰهِي وَنَاصِرِي إِخْلاَلِي بِٱلشُّكْرِ

lam yamna`ka ya ilahi wa nasiri ikhlali bilshshukri

My failure to be thankful to You has not made You, O my God and Helper,

عَنْ إِتْمَامِ إِحْسَانِكَ

`an itmami ihsanika

stop perfecting Your favors on me.

وَلاَ حَجَزَنِي ذٰلِكَ عَنِ ٱرْتِكَابِ مَسَاخِطِكَ

wa la hajazani dhalika `an irtikabi masakhitika

Likewise, this has not prevented me from committing sins that You dislike.

اَللَّهُمَّ وَهٰذَا مَقَامُ عَبْدٍ ذَلِيلٍ

allahumma wa hadha maqamu `abdin dhalilin

6.O my God, this is the situation of a humble servant [of You],

ٱعْتَرَفَ لَكَ بِٱلتَّوْحِيدِ

i`tarafa laka bilttawhidi

who professes Your Oneness,

وَاقَرَّ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِهِ بِٱلتَّقْصِيرِ فِي ادَاءِ حَقِّكَ

wa aqarra `ala nafsihi bilttaqsiri fi ada’i haqqika

confesses of his failure to carry out his duty towards You,

وَشَهِدَ لَكَ بِسُبُوغِ نِعْمَتِكَ عَلَيْهِ

wa shahida laka bisubughi ni`matika `alayhi

and testifies to Your ample favoring on him,

وَجَمِيلِ عَادَتِكَ عِندَهُ

wa jamili `adatika `indahu

Your excellent habits in treating him,

وَإِحْسَانِكَ إِلَيْهِ

wa ihsanika ilayhi

and Your bestowal of graces upon him.

فَهَبْ لِي يَا إِلٰهِي وَسَيِّدِي مِنْ فَضْلِكَ

fahab li ya ilahi wa sayyidi min fadlika

So, my God and Master, confer upon me an amount of Your benevolence

مَا ارِيدُهُ سَبَباً إِلَىٰ رَحْمَتِكَ

ma uriduhu sababan ila rahmatika

that I can use as a path taking me to Your mercy,

وَاتَّخِذُهُ سُلَّماً اعْرُجُ فِيهِ إِلَىٰ مَرْضَاتِكَ

wa attakhidhuhu sullaman a`ruju fih ila mardatika

as a ladder by which I ascend to Your satisfaction,

وَآمَنُ بِهِ مِنْ سَخَطِكَ

wa amanu bihi min sakhatika

and I can be secured from Your wrath

بِعِزَّتِكَ وَطَوْلِكَ

bi`izzatika wa tawlika

in the name of Your might and supremacy

وَبِحَقِّ نَبِيِّكَ مُحَمَّدٍ

wa bihaqqi nabiyyika muhammadin

and in the name of Your Prophet, Muhammad,

صَلَّىٰ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ

salla allahu `alayhi wa alihi

may Your blessings be upon him and his Household.

فَلَكَ ٱلْحَمْدُ يَا رَبِّ

falaka alhamdu ya rabbi

So, all praise be to You, O Lord;

مِنْ مُقْتَدِرٍ لاَ يُغْلَبُ

min muqtadirin la yughlabu

You are invulnerably Omnipotent

وَذِي انَاةٍ لاَ يَعْجَلُ

wa dhi anatin la ya`jalu

and prudently Forbearing.

صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

salli `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin

Bless Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad

وَٱجْعَلْنِي لِنَعْمَائِكَ مِنَ ٱلشَّاكِرِينَ

waj`alni lina`ma’ika mina alshshakirina

and include me with those who are thankful for Your bounties

وَلآِلاَئِكَ مِنَ ٱلذَّاكِرِينَ

wa li-ala’ika mina aldhdhakirina

and those who permanently mention Your graces.

إِلٰهِي وَكَمْ مِنْ عَبْدٍ

ilahi wa kam min `abdin

7.My God, many a servant [of You]

امْسَىٰ وَاصْبَحَ فِي كَرْبِ ٱلْمَوْتِ

amsa wa asbaha fi karbi almawti

is in eves and morns suffering the agony of death,

وَحَشْرَجَةِ ٱلصَّدْرِ

wa hashrajati alssadri

and the rattles of death,

وَٱلنَّظَرِ إِلىٰ مَا تَقْشَعِرُّ مِنْهُ ٱلْجُلُودُ

walnnazari ila ma taqsha`irru minhu aljuludu

experiencing that which shudders the skins

وَتَفْزَعُ لَهُ ٱلْقُلُوبُ

wa tafza`u lahu alqulubu

and horrifies the hearts;

وَانَا فِي عَافِيَةٍ مِنْ ذٰلِكَ كُلِّهِ

wa ana fi `afiyatin min dhalika kullihi

but I am safe from all that.

فَلَكَ ٱلْحَمْدُ يَا رَبِّ

falaka alhamdu ya rabbi

So, all praise be to You, O Lord;

مِنْ مُقْتَدِرٍ لاَ يُغْلَبُ

min muqtadirin la yughlabu

You are invulnerably Omnipotent

وَذِي انَاةٍ لاَ يَعْجَلُ

wa dhi anatin la ya`jalu

and prudently Forbearing.

صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

salli `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin

Bless Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad

وَٱجْعَلْنِي لِنَعْمَائِكَ مِنَ ٱلشَّاكِرِينَ

waj`alni lina`ma’ika mina alshshakirina

and include me with those who are thankful for Your bounties

وَلآِلاَئِكَ مِنَ ٱلذَّاكِرِينَ

wa li-ala’ika mina aldhdhakirina

and those who permanently mention Your graces.

إِلٰهِي وَكَمْ مِنْ عَبْدٍ

ilahi wa kam min `abdin

8.My God, many a servant [of You]

امْسَىٰ وَاصْبَحَ سَقِيماً مُوجَعاً

amsa wa asbaha saqiman muja`an

is in eves and morns ailing and feeling pain

فِي انَّةٍ وَعَوِيلٍ

fi annatin wa `awilin

with moans and wails,

يَتَقَلَّبُ فِي غَمِّهِ

yataqallabu fi ghammihi

and is rolling over and over with anguish;

لاَ يَجِدُ مَحِيصاً

la yajidu mahisan

neither finding any way of escaping it

وَلاَ يُسِيغُ طَعَاماً وَلاَ شَرَاباً

wa la yusighu ta`aman wa la sharaban

nor is he finding the taste of any food or drink;

وَانَا فِي صِحَّةٍ مِنَ ٱلْبَدَنِ

wa ana fi sihhatin mina albadani

while I am enjoying body health

وَسَلاَمَةٍ مِنَ ٱلْعَيْشِ

wa salamatin mina al`ayshi

and safe living.

كُلُّ ذٰلِكَ مِنْكَ

kullu dhalika minka

All that [wellbeing] is from You.

فَلَكَ ٱلْحَمْدُ يَا رَبِّ

falaka alhamdu ya rabbi

So, all praise be to You, O Lord;

مِنْ مُقْتَدِرٍ لاَ يُغْلَبُ

min muqtadirin la yughlabu

You are invulnerably Omnipotent

وَذِي انَاةٍ لاَ يَعْجَلُ

wa dhi anatin la ya`jalu

and prudently Forbearing.

صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

salli `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin

Bless Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad

وَٱجْعَلْنِي لِنَعْمَائِكَ مِنَ ٱلشَّاكِرِينَ

waj`alni lina`ma’ika mina alshshakirina

and include me with those who are thankful for Your bounties

وَلآِلاَئِكَ مِنَ ٱلذَّاكِرِينَ

wa li-ala’ika mina aldhdhakirina

and those who permanently mention Your graces.

إِلٰهِي وَكَمْ مِنْ عَبْدٍ

ilahi wa kam min `abdin

9.O my God, many a servant [of You]

امْسَىٰ وَاصْبَحَ خَائِفاً مَرْعُوباً

amsa wa asbaha kha’ifan mar`uban

is in eves and morns fearful, frightened,

مُشْفِقاً وَجِلاً

mushfiqan wajilan

terrified, scared,

هَارِباً طَرِيداً

hariban taridan

fugitive, runaway,

مُنجَحِراً فِي مَضِيقٍ

munjahiran fi madiqin

hiding in a tight burrow

وَمَخْبَاةٍ مِنَ المَخَابِئِ

wa makhba’atin mina almakhabi’i

or in an ordinary den;

قَدْ ضَاقَتْ عَلَيْهِ ٱلارْضُ بِرُحْبِهَا

qad daqat `alayhi al-ardu biruhbiha

while the entire spacious earth has become too narrow to secure him a place.

لاَ يَجِدُ حِيلَةً

la yajidu hilatan

He thus cannot devise any plan

وَلاَ مَنجىٰ وَلاَ مَاوىٰ

wa la manja wa la mawan

or find any shelter or retreat.

وَانَا فِي امْنٍ وَطُمَانِينَةٍ وَعَافِيَةٍ

wa ana fi amnin wa tuma’ninatin wa `afiyatin

While I am living in security, tranquility, and good health;

مِن ذٰلِكَ كُلِّهِ

min dhalika kullihi

all of which is from You.

فَلَكَ ٱلْحَمْدُ يَا رَبِّ

falaka alhamdu ya rabbi

So, all praise be to You, O Lord;

مِنْ مُقْتَدِرٍ لاَ يُغْلَبُ

min muqtadirin la yughlabu

You are invulnerably Omnipotent

وَذِي انَاةٍ لاَ يَعْجَلُ

wa dhi anatin la ya`jalu

and prudently Forbearing.

صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

salli `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin

Bless Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad

وَٱجْعَلْنِي لِنَعْمَائِكَ مِنَ ٱلشَّاكِرِينَ

waj`alni lina`ma’ika mina alshshakirina

and include me with those who are thankful for Your bounties

وَلآِلاَئِكَ مِنَ ٱلذَّاكِرِينَ

wa li-ala’ika mina aldhdhakirina

and those who permanently mention Your graces.

إِلٰهِي وَسَيِّدِي

ilahi wa sayyidi

O my God and Master,

وَكَمْ مِنْ عَبْدٍ

wa kam min `abdin

many a servant [of You]

امْسَىٰ وَاصْبَحَ مَغْلُولاً

amsa wa asbaha maghlulan

is in eves and morns enchained

مُكَبَّلاً فِي ٱلْحَدِيدِ

mukabbalan fi alhadidi

and shackled in iron shackles

بِايْدِي ٱلْعُدَاةِ لاَ يَرْحَمُونَهُ

bi-aydi al`udati la yarhamunahu

in the hands of his enemies whom show him no mercy;

فَقِيداً مِنْ اهْلِهِ وَوَلَدِهِ

faqidan min ahlihi wa waladihi

[and he is] separated from his family members and children

مُنقَطِعاً عَنْ إِخْوَانِهِ وَبَلَدِهِ

munqati`an `an ikhwanihi wa baladihi

and detached from his friends and country;

يَتَوَقَّعُ كُلَّ سَاعَةٍ بِايِّ قَتْلَةٍ يُقْتَلُ

yatawaqqa`u kulla sa`atin bi-ayyi qitlatin yuqtalu

each hour, he wonders what kind of killing he will be killed

وَبِايِّ مُثْلَةٍ يُمَثَّلُ بِهِ

wa bi-ayyi muthlatin yumaththalu bihi

and what kind of mutilation he will be mutilated.

وَانَا فِي عَافِيَةٍ مِنْ ذٰلِكَ كُلِّهِ

wa ana fi `afiyatin min dhalika kullihi

But I am safe from all this.

فَلَكَ ٱلْحَمْدُ يَا رَبِّ

falaka alhamdu ya rabbi

So, all praise be to You, O Lord;

مِنْ مُقْتَدِرٍ لاَ يُغْلَبُ

min muqtadirin la yughlabu

You are invulnerably Omnipotent

وَذِي انَاةٍ لاَ يَعْجَلُ

wa dhi anatin la ya`jalu

and prudently Forbearing.

and include me with those who are thankful for Your bounties

وَلآِلاَئِكَ مِنَ ٱلذَّاكِرِينَ

wa li-ala’ika mina aldhdhakirina

and those who permanently mention Your graces.

إِلٰهِي وَكَمْ مِنْ عَبْدٍ

ilahi wa kam min `abdin

10.My God, many a servant [of You]

امْسَىٰ وَاصْبَحَ يُقَاسِي ٱلْحَرْبَ

amsa wa asbaha yuqasi alharba

is in eves and morns contending in war,

وَمُبَاشَرَةِ ٱلْقِتَاِل بِنَفْسِهِ

wa mubasharata alqitali binafsihi

conducting the fighting by himself,

قَدْ غَشِيَتْهُ ٱلاعْدَاءُ مِنْ كُلِّ جَانِبٍ

qad ghashiyat-hu al-a`da’u min kulli janibin

and is surrounded by enemies from all sides

بِٱلسُّيُوفِ وَٱلرِّمَاحِ وَآلَةِ ٱلْحَرْبِ

bilssuyufi walrrimahi wa alati alharbi

with swords, spears, and instruments of wars.

يَتَقَعْقَعُ فِي ٱلْحَدِيدِ

yataqa`qa`u fi alhadidi

He is trembling inside iron [i.e. his armor],

قَدْ بَلَغَ مَجْهُودَهُ

qad balagha majhudahu

and trying desperately to do everything possible.

لاَ يَعْرِفُ حِيلَةً

la ya`rifu hilatan

He cannot find any further means

وَلاَ يَجِدُ مَهْرَباً

wa la yajidu mahraban

and cannot find any escape.

قَدْ ادْنِفَ بِٱلْجِرَاحَاتِ

qad udnifa biljirahati

He is seriously experiencing wounds

اوْ مُتَشَحِّطاً بِدَمِهِ

aw mutashahhitan bidamihi

or is totally covered with his blood

تَحْتَ ٱلسَّنَابِكِ وَٱلارْجُلِ

tahta alssanabiki wal-arjuli

[struggling] under the toes of the hooves and under feet;

يَتَمَنَّىٰ شَرْبَةً مِنْ مَاٍء

yatamanna sharbatan min ma’in

he desires a drink of water

اوْ نَظْرَةً إِلَىٰ اهْلِهِ وَوَلَدِهِ

aw nazratan ila ahlihi wa waladihi

or a look at his folk and children

لاَ يَقْدِرُ عَلَيْهَا

la yaqdiru `alayha

but he cannot get it.

وَانَا فِي عَافِيَةٍ مِنْ ذٰلِكَ كُلِّهِ

wa ana fi `afiyatin min dhalika kullihi

While I am safe from all that.

فَلَكَ ٱلْحَمْدُ يَا رَبِّ

falaka alhamdu ya rabbi

So, all praise be to You, O Lord;

مِنْ مُقْتَدِرٍ لاَ يُغْلَبُ

min muqtadirin la yughlabu

You are invulnerably Omnipotent

وَذِي انَاةٍ لاَ يَعْجَلُ

wa dhi anatin la ya`jalu

ilahi wa kam min `abdin

My God, many a servant [of You]

امْسَىٰ وَاصْبَحَ فِي ظُلُمَاتِ ٱلْبِحَارِ

amsa wa asbaha fi zulumati albihari

is in eves and morns living in the darkness of seas,

وَعَوَاصِفِ ٱلرِّيَاحِ

wa `awasifi alrriyahi

in the storms of winds,

وَٱلاهْوَاِل وَٱلامْوَاجِ

wal-ahwali wal-amwaji

and in horrors and billows;

يَتَوَقَّعُ ٱلْغَرَقَ وَٱلْهَلاَكَ

yatawaqqa`u algharaqa walhalaka

anticipating drowning and perdition;

لاَ يَقْدِر علىٰ حِيلَةٍ

la yaqdiru `ala hilatin

he does not have any means in his power;

اوْ مُبْتَلىٰ بِصَاعِقَةٍ

aw mubtalan bisa`iqatin

or is afflicted with a thunderbolt,

اوْ هَدْمٍ اوْ حَرْقٍ

aw hadmin aw harqin

demolition, burning,

اوْ شَرقٍ اوْ خَسْفٍ

aw sharqin aw khasfin

or choking, swallowing of the earth,

اوْ مَسْخٍ اوْ قَذْفٍ

aw maskhin aw qadhfin

deformation, or striking.

وَانَا فِي عَافِيَةٍ مِنْ ذٰلِكَ كُلِّهِ

wa ana fi `afiyatin min dhalika kullihi

While I am safe from all that.

فَلَكَ ٱلْحَمْدُ يَا رَبِّ

falaka alhamdu ya rabbi

So, all praise be to You, O Lord;

مِنْ مُقْتَدِرٍ لاَ يُغْلَبُ

ilahi wa kam min `abdin

My God, many a servant [of You]

امْسَىٰ وَاصْبَحَ مُسَافِراً

amsa wa asbaha musafiran

is in eves and morns on journeys,

شَاخِصاً عَنْ اهْلِهِ وَوَلَدِهِ

shakhisan `an ahlihi wa waladihi

far away from his family members and sons,

مُتَحَيِّراً فِي ٱلْمَفَاوِزِ

mutahayyiran fi almafawizi

bewildered in deserts,

تَائِهاً مَعَ ٱلْوُحُوشِ وَٱلْبَهَائِمِ وَٱلْهَوَامِّ

ta’ihan ma`a alwuhushi walbaha’imi walhawammi

wandering with beasts, wild animals, and pests,

وَحِيداً فَرِيداً

wahidan faridan

alone and forlorn;

لاَ يَعْرِفُ حِيلَةً

la ya`rifu hilatan

he can find no way out

وَلاَ يَهْتَدِي سَبِيلاً

wa la yahtadi sabilan

nor can he follow any right path;

اوْ مُتَاذِّياً بِبَرْدٍ اوْ حَرٍّ

aw muta’adhdhiyan bibardin aw harrin

or is suffering cold, hot weather,

اوْ جُوعٍ اوْ عُرْيٍ

aw ju`in aw `uryin

hunger, nudity,

اوْ غَيْرِهِ مِنَ ٱلشَّدَائِدِ

aw ghayrihi mina alshshada’idi

or other sorts of tribulations

مِمَّا انَا مِنْهُ خِلْوٌ

mimma ana minhu khilwun

of which I am free;

فِي عَافِيَةٍ مِنْ ذٰلِكَ كُلِّهِ

fi `afiyatin min dhalika kullihi

and I am released from all that.

فَلَكَ ٱلْحَمْدُ يَا رَبِّ

falaka alhamdu ya rabbi

So, all praise be to You, O Lord;

مِنْ مُقْتَدِرٍ لاَ يُغْلَبُ

min muqtadirin la yughlabu

You are invulnerably Omnipotent

وَذِي انَاةٍ لاَ يَعْجَلُ

wa dhi anatin la ya`jalu

and prudently Forbearing.

صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

salli `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin

and include me with those who are thankful for Your bounties

وَلآِلاَئِكَ مِنَ ٱلذَّاكِرِينَ

wa li-ala’ika mina aldhdhakirina

and those who permanently mention Your graces.

إِلٰهِي وَمَوْلايَ وَسَيِّدِي

ilahi wa mawlaya wa sayyidi

My God, Master, and Lord,

وَكَمْ مِنْ عَبْدٍ

wa kam min `abdin

many a servant [of You]

امْسَىٰ وَاصْبَحَ فَقِيراً عَائِلاً

amsa wa asbaha faqiran `a’ilan

is in eves and morns poor, needy,

عَارِياً مُمْلِقاً

`ariyan mumliqan

naked, deprived,

مُخْفِقاً مَهْجُوراً

mukhfiqan mahjuran

abortive, abandoned,

جَائِعاً ظَمْآنَ

ja’i`an zam’ana

hungry, and thirsty;

يَنتَظِرُ مَنْ يَعُودُ عَلَيْهِ بِفَضْلٍ

yantaziru man ya`udu `alayhi bifadlin

expecting someone to bestow a favor upon him;

اوْ عَبْدٍ وَجِيهٍ عِندَكَ

aw `abdin wajihin `indaka

or many a slave—who enjoys a high standing with You

هُوَ اوْجَهُ مِنِّي عِندَكَ

huwa awjahu minni `indaka

or who is superior in prominence than I am in Your view

وَاشَدُّ عِبَادَةً لَكَ

wa ashaddu `ibadatan laka

and more worshipping for You than I am—

مَغْلُولاً مَقْهُوراً

maghlulan maqhuran

is chained and subdued;

قَدْ حُمِّلَ ثِقْلاً مِنْ تَعَبِ ٱلْعَنَاءِ

qad hummila thiqlan min ta`abi al`ana’i

he has been overloaded with the exhaustion of pains,

وَشِدَّةِ ٱلْعُبُودِيَّةِ

wa shiddati al`ubudiyyati

the hardship of slavery,

وَكُلْفَةِ ٱلرِّقِّ

wa kulfati alrriqqi

the encumbrance of serfdom,

وَثِقْلِ ٱلضَّرِيبَةِ

wa thiqli alddaribati

and the burden of imposition;

اوْ مُبْتَلَىٰ بِبَلاَءٍ شَدِيدٍ

aw mubtalan bibala’in shadidin

or is encountering a hard tribulation

لاَ قِبَلَ لَهُ بِهِ إِلاَّ بِمَنِّكَ عَلَيْهِ

la qibala lahu bihi illa bimannika `alayhi

that he cannot stand except by a favor that You bestow upon him;

وَانَا ٱلْمَخْدُومُ ٱلْمُنَعَّمُ

wa ana almakhdumu almuna“mu

while I am served, turning in bliss,

ٱلْمُعَافَىٰ ٱلْمُكَرَّمُ

almu`afa almukarramu

relieved from that, honored,

فِي عَافِيَةٍ مِمَّا هُوَ فِيهِ

fi `afiyatin mimma huwa fihi

and released from what that one suffers.

فَلَكَ ٱلْحَمْدُ عَلَىٰ ذٰلِكَ كُلِّهِ

falaka alhamdu `ala dhalika kullihi

So, all praise be to You, O Lord;

مِنْ مُقْتَدِرٍ لاَ يُغْلَبُ

min muqtadirin la yughlabu

You are invulnerably Omnipotent

وَذِي انَاةٍ لاَ يَعْجَلُ

wa dhi anatin la ya`jalu

and prudently Forbearing.

صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

salli `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin

وَٱجْعَلْنِي لِنَعْمَائِكَ مِنَ ٱلشَّاكِرِينَ

waj`alni lina`ma’ika mina alshshakirina

and include me with those who are thankful for Your bounties

وَلآِلاَئِكَ مِنَ ٱلذَّاكِرِينَ

wa li-ala’ika mina aldhdhakirina

and those who permanently mention Your graces.

إِلٰهِي وَسَيِّدِي

ilahi wa sayyidi

My God and Master,

وَكَمْ مِنْ عَبْدٍ امْسَىٰ وَاصْبَحَ

wa kam min `abdin amsa wa asbaha

many a servant [of You] is in eves and morns

شَرِيداً طَرِيداً

sharidan taridan

homeless, fugitive,

حَيْرَانَ مُتَحَيِّراً

hayrana mutahayyiran

confused, bewildered,

جَائِعاً خَائِفاً

ja’i`an kha’ifan

hungry, and afraid

فِي ٱلصَّحَارِي وَٱلْبَرَارِي

fi allssahari walbarari

in deserts and wild lands;

قَدْ احْرَقَهُ ٱلْحَرُّ وَٱلْبَرْدُ

qad ahraqahu alharru walbardu

he is burnt by hot and cold weather

وَهُوَ فِي ضُرٍّ مِنَ ٱلعَيْشِ

wa huwa fi durrin mina al`ayshi

while he is suffering harsh living,

وَضَنكٍ مِنَ ٱلحَيَاةِ

wa danakin mina alhayati

barely sufficient manner of living,

وَذُلٍّ مِنَ ٱلمَقَامِ

wa dhullin mina almaqami

and humble position;

يَنظُرُ إِلَىٰ نَفْسِهِ حَسْرَةً

yanzuru ila nafsihi hasratan

he looks at himself with grief

لاَ يَقْدِرُ لَهَا عَلَىٰ ضُرٍّ وَلاَ نَفْعٍ

la yaqdiru laha `ala durrin wa la naf`in

because he cannot make any harm or benefit to himself;

وَانَا خِلْوٌ مِنْ ذٰلِكَ كُلِّهِ

wa ana khilwun min dhalika kullihi

but I am free from all that

بِجُودِكَ وَكَرَمِكَ

bijudika wa karamika

on account of Your magnanimity and generosity.

فَلَكَ ٱلْحَمْدُ يَا رَبِّ

falaka alhamdu ya rabbi

So, all praise be to You, O Lord;

مِنْ مُقْتَدِرٍ لاَ يُغْلَبُ

min muqtadirin la yughlabu

You are invulnerably Omnipotent

وَذِي انَاةٍ لاَ يَعْجَلُ

wa dhi anatin la ya`jalu

and prudently Forbearing.

صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

salli `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin

وَلآِلاَئِكَ مِنَ ٱلذَّاكِرِينَ

wa li-ala’ika mina aldhdhakirina

and those who permanently mention Your graces;

وَٱرْحَمْنِي بِرَحْمَتِكَ

warhamni birahmatika

and have mercy upon me, by Your mercy;

يَا ارْحَمَ ٱلرَّاحِمِينَ

ya arhama alrrahimina

O most Merciful of all those who show mercy.

إِلٰهِي وَسَيِّدِي

ilahi wa sayyidi

My God and Master,

وَكَمْ مِنْ عَبْدٍ امْسَىٰ وَاصْبَحَ

wa kam min `abdin amsa wa asbaha

many a servant [of You] is in eves and morns

عَلِيلاً مَرِيضاً

`alilan maridan

ailing, ill,

سَقِيماً مُدْنِفاً

saqiman mudnifan

sick, and seriously unwell;

عَلَىٰ فُرُشِ ٱلْعِلَّةِ وَفِي لِبَاسِهَا

`ala furushi al`illati wa fi libasiha

[laid] on the bed of ailment and dressed with it;

يَتَقَلَّبُ يَمِيناً وَشِمَالاً

yataqallabu yaminan wa shimalan

he turns right and left [unrestfully]

لاَ يَعْرِفُ شَيْئاً مِنْ لَذَّةِ ٱلطَّعَامِ

la ya`rifu shay’an min ladhdhati altta`ami

and cannot find the good taste of food

وَلاَ مِنْ لَذَّةِ ٱلشَّرَابِ

wa la min ladhdhati alshsharabi

or the good taste of drink;

يَنظُرُ إِلَىٰ نَفْسِهِ حَسْرَةً

yanzuru ila nafsihi hasratan

he looks at himself with grief

لاَ يَسْتَطِيعُ لَهَا ضَرّاً وَلاَ نَفْعاً

la yastati`u laha darran wa la naf`an

because he cannot make any harm or benefit to himself.

وَانَا خِلْوٌ مِنْ ذٰلِكَ كُلِّهِ

wa ana khilwun min dhalika kullihi

While I am free from all that

بِجُودِكَ وَكَرَمِكَ

bijudika wa karamika

on account of Your magnanimity and generosity.

فَلاَ إلٰهَ إِلاَّ انْتَ سُبْحانَكَ

fala ilaha illa anta subhanaka

So, there is no god save You. All glory be to You;

مِنْ مُقْتَدِرٍ لاَ يُغْلَبُ

min muqtadirin la yughlabu

You are invulnerably Omnipotent

وَذِي انَاةٍ لاَ يَعْجَلُ

wa dhi anatin la ya`jalu

and prudently Forbearing.

صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

salli `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin

Bless Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad

وَٱجْعَلْنِي لَكَ مِنَ ٱلعَابِدِينَ

waj`alni laka mina al`abidina

and include me with the worshippers of You,

وَلِنَعْمَائِكَ مِنَ ٱلشَّاكِرِينَ

wa lina`ma’ika mina alshshakirina

those who are thankful for Your bounties,

وَلآِلاَئِكَ مِنَ ٱلذَّاكِرِينَ

wa li-ala’ika mina aldhdhakirina

and those who permanently mention Your graces;

وَٱرْحَمْنِي بِرَحْمَتِكَ

warhamni birahmatika

and have mercy upon me, by Your mercy;

يَا ارْحَمَ ٱلرَّاحِمِينَ

ya arhama alrrahimina

O most Merciful of all those who show mercy.

مَوْلايَ وَسَيِّدِي

mawlaya wa sayyidi

My Lord and Master,

وَكَمْ مِنْ عَبْدٍ امْسَىٰ وَاصْبَحَ

wa kam min `abdin amsa wa asbaha

many a servant [of You] is in eves and morns

وَقَدْ دَنَا يَوْمُهُ مِنْ حَتْفِهِ

wa qad dana yawmuhu min hatfihi

receiving the day of his death;

وَاحَدْقَ بِهِ مَلَكُ ٱلْمَوْتِ فِي اعْوَانِهِ

wa ahdaqa bihi malaku almawti fi a`wanihi

and the Angel of Death and his assistants are gazing at him;

يُعَالِجُ سَكَرَاتِ ٱلْمَوْتِ وَحِيَاضَهُ

yu`aliju sakarati almawti wa hiyadahu

he is thus suffering the agonies and pains of death.

تَدُورُ عَيْنَاهُ يَمِيناً وَشِمَالاً

taduru `aynahu yaminan wa shimalan

His eyes are turning right and left,

يَنظُرُ إِلَىٰ احِبَّائِهِ وَاوِدَّائِهِ وَاخِلاَّئِهِ

yanzuru ila ahibba’ihi wa awidda’ihi wa akhilla’ihi

looking at his dear, beloved, and intimate friends;

قَدْ مُنِعَ مِنَ ٱلكَلاَمِ

qad muni`a mina alkalami

he is restrained from ability to talk

وَحُجِبَ عَنْ ٱلْخِطَابِ

wa hujiba `ani alkhitabi

and withheld from speaking.

يَنظُرُ إِلَىٰ نَفْسِهِ حَسْرَةً

yanzuru ila nafsihi hasratan

He looks at himself with grief

لاَ يَسْتَطِيعُ لَهَا ضَرّاً وَلاَ نَفْعاً

la yastati`u laha darran wa la naf`an

because he cannot make any harm or benefit to himself;

وَانَا خِلْوٌ مِنْ ذٰلِكَ كُلِّهِ

wa ana khilwun min dhalika kullihi

but I am free from all that

بِجُودِكَ وَكَرَمِكَ

bijudika wa karamika

on account of Your magnanimity and generosity.

فَلاَ إلٰهَ إِلاَّ انْتَ سُبْحانَكَ

fala ilaha illa anta subhanaka

So, there is no god save You. All glory be to You;

مِنْ مُقْتَدِرٍ لاَ يُغْلَبُ

min muqtadirin la yughlabu

You are invulnerably Omnipotent

وَذِي انَاةٍ لاَ يَعْجَلُ

wa dhi anatin la ya`jalu

and prudently Forbearing.

صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

salli `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin

Bless Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad

وَٱجْعَلْنِي لِنَعْمَائِكَ مِنَ ٱلشَّاكِرِينَ

waj`alni lina`ma’ika mina alshshakirina

and include me with those who are thankful for Your bounties

wa li-ala’ika mina aldhdhakirina

and those who permanently mention Your graces;

إِلٰهِي وَمَوْلايَ وَسَيِّدِي

ilahi wa mawlaya wa sayyidi

My God, Lord, and Master,

وَكَمْ مِنْ عَبْدٍ امْسَىٰ وَاصْبَحَ

wa kam min `abdin amsa wa asbaha

many a servant [of You] is in eves and morns

فِي مَضَائِقِ ٱلْحُبُوسِ وَٱلسُّجُونِ

fi mada’iqi alhubusi walssujuni

in the straits of jails and prisons

وَكُرَبِهَا وَذُلهِّا وَحَدِيدِهَا

wa kurabiha wa dhulliha wa hadidiha

and in their agonies, humiliation, and iron;

يَتَدَاوَلُهُ اعْوَانُهَا وَزَبَانِيَتُهَا

yatadawaluhu a`wanuha wa zabaniyatuha

controlled by their keepers and guards;

فَلاَ يَدْرِي ايُّ حَالٍ يُفْعَلُ بِهِ

fala yadri ayyu halin yuf`alu bihi

so, he has no idea what will be done to him

وَايُّ مُثْلَةٍ يُمَثَّلُ بِهِ

wa ayyu muthlatin yumaththalu bihi

and which punishment will be set upon him.

فَهُوَ فِي ضُرٍّ مِنَ ٱلعَيْشِ

fa huwa fi durrin mina al`ayshi

He is suffering harsh living

وَضَنكٍ مِنَ ٱلحَيَاةِ

wa dankin mina alhayati

and barely sufficient manner of living.

يَنظُرُ إِلَىٰ نَفْسِهِ حَسْرَةً

yanzuru ila nafsihi hasratan

He looks at himself with grief

لاَ يَسْتَطِيعُ لَهَا ضَرّاً وَلاَ نَفْعاً

la yastati`u laha darran wa la naf`an

because he cannot make any harm or benefit to himself;

وَانَا خِلْوٌ مِنْ ذٰلِكَ كُلِّهِ

wa ana khilwun min dhalika kullihi

but I am free from all that

بِجُودِكَ وَكَرَمِكَ

bijudika wa karamika

on account of Your magnanimity and generosity.

فَلاَ إلٰهَ إِلاَّ انْتَ سُبْحانَكَ

fala ilaha illa anta subhanaka

So, there is no god save You. All glory be to You;

مِنْ مُقْتَدِرٍ لاَ يُغْلَبُ

min muqtadirin la yughlabu

You are invulnerably Omnipotent

وَذِي انَاةٍ لاَ يَعْجَلُ

wa dhi anatin la ya`jalu

and prudently Forbearing.

صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

salli `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin

Bless Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad

إِلٰهِي وَمَوْلايَ وَسَيِّدِي

ilahi wa mawlaya wa sayyidi

My God, Lord, and Master,

وَكَمْ مِنْ عَبْدٍ امْسَىٰ وَاصْبَحَ

wa kam min `abdin amsa wa asbaha

many a servant [of You] is in eves and morns

قَدِ ٱسْتَمَرَّ عَلَيْهِ ٱلْقَضَاءُ

qad istamarra `alayhi alqada’u

permanently suffering under the vicissitudes of time,

وَاحْدَقَ بِهِ ٱلْبَلاءُ

wa ahdaqa bihi albala’u

surrounded by hardships,

وَفَارَقَ اوِدَّاءَهُ وَاحِبَّاءَهُ وَاخِلاَّءَهُ

wa faraqa awidda’ahu wa ahibba’ahu wa akhilla’ahu

departing his dear, beloved, and intimate friends,

وَامْسَىٰ اسِيراً حَقِيراً ذَليِلاً

wa amsa asiran haqiran dhalilan

receiving the evenings while he is imprisoned, humiliated, and lowly,

فِي ايدِي ٱلْكُفَّارِ وَٱلاعْدَاءِ

fi aydi alkuffari wal-a`da’i

in the hands of the unbelievers and the enemies

يَتَدَاوَلُونَهُ يَمِيناً وَشِمَالاً

yatadawalunahu yaminan wa shimalan

who dominate him from the right and the left;

قَدْ حُصِرَ فِي ٱلْمَطَامِيرِ

qad husira fi almatamiri

he has been locked up in cellars

وَثُقِّلَ بِٱلْحَدِيدِ

wa thuqqila bilhadidi

and overloaded with iron (shackles);

لاَ يَرَىٰ شَيْئاً مِنْ ضِيَاءِ ٱلدُّنيَا

la yara shay’an min diya’i alddunya

he cannot see any of the light of the world

وَلاَ مِنْ رَوْحِهَا

wa la min rawhiha

nor any of its rest;

يَنظُرُ إِلَىٰ نَفْسِهِ حَسْرَةً

yanzuru ila nafsihi hasratan

he looks at himself with grief

لاَ يَسْتَطِيعُ لَهَا ضَرّاًوَ لاَ نَفْعاً

la yastati`u laha darran wa la naf`an

because he cannot make any harm or benefit to himself;

وَانَا خِلْوٌ مِنْ ذٰلِكَ كُلِّهِ

wa ana khilwun min dhalika kullihi

but I am free from all that

O most Merciful of all those who show mercy.

إِلٰهِي وَمَوْلايَ وَسَيِّدِي

ilahi wa mawlaya wa sayyidi

My God, Lord, and Master;

وَكَمْ مِنْ عَبْدٍ امْسَىٰ وَاصْبَحَ

wa kam min `abdin amsa wa asbaha

many a servant [of You] in eves and morns

وَقَدِ ٱشْتَاقَ إِلَىٰ ٱلدُّنْيَا بِٱلرَّغْبَةِ فِيهَا

wa qad ishtaqa ila alddunya bilrraghbati fiha

has desirously longed for the worldly pleasures

إِلَىٰ انْ خَاطَرَ بِنَفْسِهِ وَمَاِلهِ

ila an khatara binafsihi wa malihi

that he risked himself and his property

حِرْصاً مِنْهُ عَلَيْهَا

hirsan minhu `alayha

out of his greediness of them (i.e. these pleasures).

قَدْ رَكِبَ ٱلْفُلْكَ وَكُسِرَتْ بِهِ

qad rakiba alfulka wa kusirat bihi

He thus embarked on a ship, which was then broken;

وَهُوَ فِي آفَاقِ ٱلْبِحَارِ وَظُلَمِهَا

wa huwa fi afaqi albihari wa zulamiha

so, he is in the horizons and murk of oceans;

يَنظُرُ إِلَىٰ نَفْسِهِ حَسْرَةً

yanzuru ila nafsifi hasratan

he looks at himself with grief

لاَ يَقْدِرُ لَهَا عَلَىٰ ضَرٍّ وَلاَ نَفْعٍ

la yaqdiru laha `ala durrin wa la naf`in

because he cannot make any harm or benefit to himself;

وَانَا خِلْوٌ مِنْ ذٰلِكَ كُلِّهِ

wa ana khilwun min dhalika kullihi

but I am free from all that

بِجُودِكَ وَكَرَمِكَ

bijudika wa karamika

on account of Your magnanimity and generosity.

فَلاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ انْتَ سُبْحانَكَ

fala ilaha illa anta subhanaka

So, there is no god save You. All glory be to You;

يَا ارْحَمَ ٱلرَّاحِمِينَ

ya arhama alrrahimina

O most Merciful of all those who show mercy.

إِلٰهِي وَمَوْلايَ وسَيِّدِي

ilahi wa mawlaya wa sayyidi

My God, Lord, and Master,

وَكَمْ مِنْ عَبْدٍ امْسَىٰ وَاصْبَحَ

wa kam min `abdin amsa wa asbaha

many a servant [of You] is in eves and morns

قَدِ ٱسْتَمَرَّ عَلَيْهِ ٱلْقَضَاءُ

qad istamarra `alayhi alqada’u

permanently suffering under the vicissitudes of time

وَاحْدَقَ بِهِ ٱلْبَلاَءُ

wa ahdaqa bihi albala’u

and is surrounded by hardships,

وَٱلْكُفَّارُ وَٱلاعْدَاءُ

walkuffaru wal-a`da’u

unbelievers, and enemies;

وَاخَذَتْهُ ٱلرِّمَاحُ وَٱلسُّيُوفُ وَٱلسِّهَامُ

wa akhadhat-hu alrrimahu walssuyufu walssihamu

and is taken up by spears, swords, and arrows;

وَجُدِّلَ صَرِيعاً

wa juddila sari`an

and he was then knocked down and thrown to the ground.

وَقَدْ شَرِبَتِ ٱلارْضُ مِنْ دَمِهِ

wa qad sharibat al-ardu min damihi

The soil swallowed his blood

وَاكَلَتِ ٱلسِّبَاعُ وَٱلطَّيْرُ مِنْ لَحْمِهِ

wa akalat alssiba`u walttayru min lahmihi

and beasts and birds munched his flesh.

وَانَا خِلْوٌ مِنْ ذٰلِكَ كُلِّهِ

wa ana khilwun min dhalika kullihi

But I am free from all that

بِجُودِكَ وَكَرَمِكَ

bijudika wa karamika

on account of Your magnanimity and generosity

لاَ بِٱسْتِحْقَاقٍ منِي

la bistihqaqin minni

although I do not deserve it.

يَا لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ انْتَ سُبْحانَكَ

ya ilaha illa anta subhanaka

O He save Whom there is no god. All glory be to You;

مِنْ مُقْتَدِرٍ لاَ يُغْلَبُ

min muqtadirin la yughlabu

You are invulnerably Omnipotent

وَذِي انَاةٍ لاَ يَعْجَلُ

wa dhi anatin la ya`jalu

and prudently Forbearing.

صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

salli `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin

Bless Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad

وَٱجْعَلْنِي لِنَعْمَائِكَ مِنَ ٱلشَّاكِرِينَ

waj`alni lina`ma’ika mina alshshakirina

and include me with those who are thankful for Your bounties

وَلآِلاَئِكَ مِنَ ٱلذَّاكِرِينَ

wa li-ala’ika mina aldhdhakirina

and those who permanently mention Your graces;

وَٱرْحَمْنِي بِرَحْمَتِكَ

warhamni birahmatika

and have mercy upon me, by Your mercy,

يَا ارْحَمَ ٱلرَّاحِمِينَ

ya arhama alrrahimina

O most Merciful of all those who show mercy;

وَعِزَّتِكَ يَا كَرِيمُ

wa `izzatika ya karimu

and by Your might; O All-generous.

َلاطْلُبَنَّ مِمَّا لَديْكَ

la’atlubanna mimma ladayka

I will insistently ask for that which is with You,

وََلالِحَّنَّ عَلَيْكَ

wa la’ulihhanna `alayka

persist on You,

وََلامُدَّنَّ يَدِيَ نَحْوَكَ

wa la’amuddanna yadi nahwaka

and extend my hand towards You,

مَعَ جُرْمِهَا إِلَيْكَ

ma`a jurmiha ilayka

although it has committed offenses against You.

يَا رَبِّ فَبِمَنْ اعُوذُ

ya rabbi fabiman a`udhu

O my Lord, whose protection should I seek

وَبِمَنْ الُوذُ

wa biman aludhu

and whose refuge should I take?

لاَ احَدَ لِي إِلاَّ انتَ

la ahada li illa anta

None can stand for me save You.

افَتَرُدَّنِي وَانتَ مُعَوَّلِي

Afataruddani wa anta mu`awwali

Will You reject me while You are my one and only confidence

وَعَلَيْكَ مُتَّكَلِي

wa `alayka muttakali

and upon You alone do I rely?

اسْالُكَ بِٱسْمِكَ ٱلَّذِي وَضَعْتَهُ عَلىٰ ٱلسَّمَاءِ فَٱسْتَقَلَّتْ

as’aluka bismika alladhi wada`tahu `ala alssama’i fastaqallat

I thus beseech You in the name of Your Name that when You put it on the heavens, they raised,

وَعَلَىٰ ٱلارْضِ فَٱسْتَقَرَّتْ

wa `ala al-ardi fastaqarrat

when You put it on the earth, it settled down,

وَعَلَىٰ ٱلْجِبَاِل فَرَسَتْ

wa `ala aljibali farasat

when You put it on the mountains, they became firm,

وَعَلَىٰ ٱللَّيْلِ فَاظْلَمَ

wa `ala allayli fa-azlama

when You put it on the night, it darkled,

وَعَلَىٰ ٱلنَّهَارِ فَٱسْتَنَارَ

wa `ala alnnahari fastanara

and when You put it on the daylight, it lit up,

ان تُصَلِّيَ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

an tusalliya `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin

[I beseech You] to bless Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

وَان تَقْضِيَ لِي حَوَائِجِي كُلَّهَا

wa an taqdiya li hawa’iji kullaha

satisfy all my wants,

وَتَغْفِرَ لِي ذُنُوبِي كُلَّهَا

wa taghfira li dhunubi kullaha

forgive all my sins,

صَغِيرَهَا وَكَبِيرَهَا

saghiraha wa kabiraha

the trivial and the significant,

وَتُوَسِّعَ عَلَيَّ مِنَ ٱلرِّزْقِ

wa tuwassi`a `alayya mina alrrizqi

and expand my sustenance

مَا تُبَلِّغُنِي بِهِ شَرَفَ ٱلدُّنيَا وَٱلآخِرَةِ

ma tuballighuni bihi sharafa alddunya wal-akhirati

to the scope that I can attain the honor of this world and the Hereafter.

يَا ارْحَمَ ٱلرَّاحِمِينَ

ya arhama alrrahimina

O most Merciful of all those who show mercy!

مَوْلايَ بِكَ ٱسْتَعَنتُ

mawlaya bika ista`antu

My Master, Your help do I seek;

فَصَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَاعنِي

fasalli `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin wa a`inni

so, bless Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad and help me!

وَبِكَ ٱسْتَجَرْتُ فَاجِرْنِي

wa bika istajartu fa-ajirni

Your protection do I seek; so, (please) protect me.

وَاغْننِي بِطَاعَتِكَ عَنْ طَاعَةِ عِبَادِكَ

wa ighnini bita`atika `an ta`ati `ibadika

Through my obedience to You, (please) suffice me from obedience to Your servants.

وَبِمَسْالَتِكَ عَنْ مَسْالَةِ خَلْقِكَ

wa bimas’alatika `an mas’alati khalqika

Through my entreaty to You; (please) suffice me from beseeching Your creatures.

وَٱنقُلْنِي مِنْ ذُلِّ ٱلْفَقْرِ إِلَىٰ عِزِّ ٱلْغِنَىٰ

wanqulni min dhulli alfaqri ila `izzi alghina

Transfer me from the humiliation of poverty to the honor of richness

وَمِن ذُلِّ ٱلْمَعَاصِي إِلَىٰ عِزِّ ٱلطَّاعَةِ

wa min dhulli alma`asi ila `izzi altta`ati

and from the humiliation of acts of disobedience to You to the honor of obedience to You.

فَقَدْ فَضَّلْتَنِي عَلَىٰ كَثِيرٍ مِنْ خَلْقِكَ

faqad faddaltani `ala kathirin min khalqika

You have really given me preference over many of Your creatures

جُوداً مِنكَ وَكَرَماً

judan minka wa karaman

out of Your magnanimity and generosity,

لاَ بِٱسْتِحْقَاقٍ منِي

la bistihqaqin minni

although I do not deserve it.

إِلٰهِي فَلَكَ ٱلْحَمْدُ عَلَىٰ ذَلَك كُلِّهِ

ilahi falaka alhamdu `ala dhalika kullihi

My God, all praise be to You for all that.

صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

salli `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin

(Please) send blessings to Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad

وَٱجْعَلْنِي لِنَعْمَائِكَ مِنَ ٱلشَّاكِرِينَ

waj`alni lina`ma’ika mina alshshakirina

and include me with those who are thankful for Your bounties

وَلآِلاَئِكَ مِنَ ٱلذَّاكِرِينَ

wa li-ala’ika mina aldhdhakirina

and those who permanently mention Your graces.

You should then prostrate yourself and say the following:

سَجَدَ وَجْهِيَ ٱلذَّلِيلُ

sajada wajhiya aldhdhalilu

My lowly face is humbly prostrating

لِوَجْهِكَ ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلْجَلِيلِ

liwajhika al`azizi aljalili

before Your All-majestic and Almighty Face.

سَجَدَ وَجْهِيَ ٱلْبَاِلي ٱلْفَانِي

sajada wajhiya albali alfani

My rotten, mortal face is prostrating

لِوَجْهِكَ ٱلدَّائِمِ ٱلْبَاقِي

liwajhika aldda’imi albaqi

before Your Everlasting, Eternal Face.

سَجَدَ وَجْهِيَ ٱلْفَقِيرُ

sajada wajhiya alfaqiru

My poor face is prostrating

لِوَجْهِكَ ٱلْغَنِيِّ ٱلْكَبِيرِ

liwajhika alghaniyyi alkabiri

before Your All-dependent and All-great Face.

سَجَدَ وَجْهِي وَسَمْعِي وَبَصَرِي

sajada wajhi wa sam`i wa basari

Prostrating are my face, my hearing, my sight,

وَلَحْمِي وَدَمِي وَجِلْدِي

wa lahmi wa dami wa jildi

my flesh, my blood, my skin,

وَعَظْمِي وَمَا اقَلَّتِ ٱلارْضُ منِي

wa `azmi wa ma aqallat al-ardu minni

my bones, and whatever part of me that is carried by the earth

لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلْعَالَمِينَ

lillahi rabbi al`alamina

before Allah, the Lord of the Worlds.

اللَّهُمَّ عُدْ عَلَىٰ جَهْلِي بِحِلْمِكَ

allahumma `ud `ala jahli bihilmika

O Allah, return upon my ignorance with Your indulgence,

وَعَلَىٰ فَقْرِي بِغِنَاكَ

wa `ala faqri bighinaka

upon my neediness with Your self-sufficiency,

وَعَلَىٰ ذُلِّي بِعِزِّكَ وَسُلْطَانِكَ

wa `ala dhulli bi`izzika wa sultanika

upon my humiliation with Your Almightiness and Authority,

وَعَلَىٰ ضَعْفِي بِقُوَّتِكَ

wa `ala da`fi biquwwatika

upon my powerlessness with Your omnipotence,

وَعَلَىٰ خَوْفِي بِامْنِكَ

wa `ala khawfi bi-amnika

upon my fearfulness with Your security,

وَعَلَىٰ ذُنُوبِي وَخَطَايَايَ بِعَفْوِكَ وَرَحْمَتِكَ

wa `ala dhunubi wa khatayaya bi`afwika wa rahmatika

and upon my sins and offenses with Your pardon and mercy.

يَا رَحْمٰنُ يَا رَحِيمُ

ya rahmanu ya rahimu

O All-beneficent! O All-merciful!

اللَّهُمَّ إنِي ادْرَا بِكَ فِي نَحْرِ…

allahumma inni adra’u bika fi nahri…

O Allah, I seek You to protect me against…

Now, you may mention the name of your enemy.

وَاعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّهِ

wa a`udhu bika min sharrihi

I seek Your protection against his evils;

فَٱكْفنِيهِ بِمَا كَفَيْتَ بِهِ انْبِيَاءَكَ

fakfinihi bima kafayta bihi anbiya’aka

so, (please) save me from him just as You have saved Your Prophets,

وَاوْلِيَاءَكَ مِنْ خَلْقِكَ

wa awliya’aka min khalqika

Your intimate servants among Your creatures,

وَصَاِلحِ عِبَادِكَ

wa salihi `ibadika

and Your righteous servants

مِن فَرَاعِنَةِ خَلْقِكَ

min fara`inati khalqika

against the tyrants amongst Your creatures,

وَطُغَاةِ عُدَاتِكَ

wa tughati `udatika

and the oppressors amongst Your enemies

وَشَرِّ جَمِيعِ خَلْقِكَ

wa sharri jami`i khalqika

and against the evil of all Your creatures.

بِرَحْمَتِكَ يَا ارْحَمَ ٱلرَّاحِمِينَ

birahmatika ya arhama alrrahimina

[I ask You] in the name of Your mercy; O most Merciful of all those who show mercy!

إِنَّكَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

innaka `ala kulli shay’in qadirun

Verily, You have power over all things.

وَحَسْبُنَا ٱللَّهُ وَنِعْمَ ٱلْوَكِيلُ

wa hasbuna allahu wa ni`ma alwakilu

Sufficient unto us is Allah; He is the best protector.
